2018?? A Plan

Hi Folks,
I sense that there is not a lot of enthusiasm for a full-blown comp for 2018. We all appear to be tiring this year, and I include myself in that.
But I do not want to stop doing the horses completely as I enjoy the fun, the tipping and the anticipation of the losers and occasional winner.
So I have been giving this a bit of thought and come up with the following suggestion.

For 2018, we scrap the daily tipster competition, and move to a Saturday competition instead. We could include Sundays if you like.
The Big race comp would stay as is...maybe a tweak or two on the bonus and scoring.
With no daily comp, we could still have a Major Race and Festivals Comp but I see no point in having a Naps comp, although we could still have the usual bonus for a winning nap on the Saturday comp.
One alternative could be to include the Major races as part of the Saturday comp with possibly a bonus for tipping winners of the designated major races. Midweek Festivals could be run as they are now with scores added to he Saturday Comp scores.

Thoughts and any further ideas or suggestions please.

Your ideas are well timed Steve. Although I enjoy the Daily Comp greatly still it's time, I agree, to curtail and adapt it. I'm finding the settling more and more tiresome and with only the three of us regularly participating things have been a tad stale of late and predictable.
So minimising is the best way forward both sensible and correct.
Your thoughts/ideas on this, as ever, hit the target. Making Saturday the main play, which I would be happy to settle, and keeping the Big Races and Major Races/Festival intact or in some guise and scrapping the Naps Comp, is eminently workable, and ticks all the boxes.
I'm definitely in support of all the measures you've suggested, Steve. On your idea to incorporate the Major Races into the main comp with bonuses I like that but would be happy either way ie as they are now or incorporated into the Saturday Comp.

I too have to admit that its been getting a bit of a burden lately choosing horses every day but didn't want to let the side down and leave just you two.

I'm happy to do just a Saturday competition plus the the Major/Big/Festival races as they arise.  Agree that we keep the usual system for a winning nap on a Saturday but ditch the naps comp.

To be honest I've never got to grips with the bonus system!  I'd be happy to ditch all bonuses (except the naps as above).  Perhaps we could be bonus-free for the Saturday competition but keep bonuses for the Major/Big/Festival races.

Do I make sense?  Here's to a fresh approach for 2018.  Maybe we could entice some others back in if it's just one day a week.

It seems my spider-senses were correct.
I will work on the new comp and tweak the ones we are keeping over the weekend.
I can live with a bonus-free Saturday comp, except for the Nap, will work that in.

After some thought and tinkering, i have come up with the following........
SATURDAY COMP
This will run on Saturday each week, with the occassional Sunday thrown in when some of the big meetings i.e Guineas weekend, run into Sunday.
Entrants can select however many or few selections that they want.
The rules are relatively simple.
Just pick your horses and post them in the relevant thread. Don't forget to add your 'NAP' as this counts as double S/P if it wins.
Races are settled to a £10.00 stake and non-runners AND WITHDRAWN TIPS (NB - Clarifying the withdrawn horse as a non-runner rule) stakes are returned. 
You may back your selection each-way. This will be settled at £5.00 each way and will be settled at 1/5 odds for placed horses in all races.

Selections can be amended up until the start of the race, the THREAD post time will be the judge for any queries for late entry against the advertised racetime, not the 'OFF' time.
Each weeks winner will be entitled to select a 'NEXT BEST ('NB')' for the whole of the following week, this will be settled at S/P plus 50% if it wins. However, if the NAP wins then the NB is settled DOUBLE the S/P. A 'NAP' must be selected before a 'NB' can be selected.
In the event of a tied week, all those tied for First will be entitled to a 'NB'.

TYPO ERRORS
This applies to all comps.........Obvious typo errors will be allowed to stand. Right horse/wrong meeting, all selections listed against another meeting, mispelt names etc all count.
However, where there are horses with similar names....Bollin Judy/Bollin Frank, any of the Milan horses etc running in the same race, the horse named will be deemed as the selection. If you want to amend any typos later in the day, this must be done before the 'off' of the race....and if the meeting has started posted on the thread.


WEEK WIN BONUS
£250.00 FOR A WEEK WIN, (NB - Increase in win amount and Bonus for number of winners removed)
To qualify for week win prize, a minimum of 5 selections must be made.

End of Year BONUS
£10 per winner added to final total. (Will keep score in 'First Past The Post' thread)

MAJOR RACE/FESTIVAL COMP
Have decided to keep this separate from Saturday comp.....
RULES
One selection for each race.
S/P is converted to points. The points are added together and settled to a £10 stake.
Winner - settled at S/P + 1pt  (NB - note extra for winner)
Placed(2nd/3rd) -- 25% S/P (3rd place counted regardless of number of runners, 4th place counted in 16+ runner handicaps)

BONUS
100% winners = Points total doubled before settling.
When there are 5 races or more races covered - 100% placed = points total + 50%

End of Year BONUS
For each winner during the year, total number will be multiplied by 10 and added to final total.

BIG RACE COMP
Pick 3 horses for each big race in the order you think they will finish.
For each selection that finishes in the position forecast, the S/P is doubled before settling.
MINIMUM OF 8 RUNNERS FOR RACE TO COUNT. (NB - number changed)

The settling would work as follows from there.
1st - 100% of S/P
2nd - 50 % of S/P
3rd - 25 % of S/P
Add together and Settle to a £10 stake

BONUS
Select 1-2-3 in correct order and the following bonus will be added
Less than 8 runners - 25% of winnings added to total
10 - 15 runners - 50% of winnings added to total
16+ runners - 100% of winnings added to total

End of Year BONUS
For each correctly forecast winner, total number will be multiplied by 10 and added to final total


I have made a few changes to some bits and bobs. Please feel free to ask for any clarification, or to suggest better options.
